How to Pack your RUX 70L for Trail Running

Posted by Chris Fleugel on

Packing for an epic day of trail running can get complicated. Between your running gear, all the gels you can stomach, and the celebratory beers, it’s easy for your gear to turn into a junk show. Here’s what to pack for trail running!

  1. RUX 70L: Think of this as your gear base-camp. The RUX 70L features proprietary inner and outer Utility Rails that allow RUX Components to be easily attached via our RUX buckles, creating a super convenient way to separate and organize your trail running gear.

  2. Proper footwear: Choose running shoes with good traction and support to handle the uneven terrain of the mountain trails. Make sure they fit comfortably and have been broken in before your run (ask us how we know).

  3. Running Vest: When you’re running over mountains and into sunsets, a good running vest or pack is key. Make sure it fits comfortably and is properly sized for your run.

  4. Hydration: Bring plenty of water to keep you hydrated throughout your run. Depending on the length of your run and the temperature, consider packing electrolyte supplements as well.

  5. Fuel: Pack energy gels, bars, or other snacks to keep you energized throughout your run. Choose foods that are easy to digest and provide sustained energy. We store all of our fuel in a RUX Pocket.

  6. Navigation: Bring a map or GPS device to navigate the trails. Familiarize yourself with the route before you go and make sure you know where the trailhead is.

  7. Clothing: Dress appropriately for the weather and the terrain. Lightweight, moisture-wicking clothing will keep you comfortable and help regulate your body temperature. Bring extra layers, such as a rain jacket or windbreaker, in case the weather changes. We like to keep our fresh clothes separated in a RUX Bag to keep them clean.

By packing these essential items in your RUX 70L, you'll be well-prepared for a day of trail running in the mountains!
